It seems there are a lot of movies being released right now that are fictional stories about people who play music. There’s Begin Again, starring Mark Ruffalo and Kiera Knightley, which is currently touring theatres around the world and then there are two more – The Song and Rudderless - hitting theatres this fall. Here’s the trailer for Begin Again:
These kind of movies are often inspirational, funny, full of fun but they can also be repetitive as the story rarely deviates from the ‘lowly musician gets a big break’ formula.
Do you enjoy these types of stories? Is there one that stands out above all the rest?
No I generally do not and don't often watch them -there are of course exceptions to this however, unless it is someone I really have liked, or like, I do not go out of my way to watch this type of movie.
I really liked Some Kind Of Monster and the Mighty Wind (and way back when I liked Danny Kaye in The Three Pennies). That romance-y one looks like a dud to me...the ad does nothing for me! But that's more me, I guess...oh, and Anvil is kind of hypnotic in that kooky way...
So I'm a sucker for these kinds of films. Yes, they are repetitive, but I still love them. This is likely because I grew up playing instruments and being in bands, so I understand the struggle. No matter the reason, I find them heartwarming.
