While these days many Hollywood movies are bland, inane and poorly acted, during the period spanning from the 1930s until the 1960s, Hollywood was where the best movies in the world were produced and the most beautiful, glamorous actors resided. Even though most are now long gone, names such as Clark Gable, Ginger Rogers, Fred Astair, Marilyn Monroe, Rock Hudson, Marlene Dietrich and Elizabeth Taylor still live on, synonymous with glamour, sophistication and what has come to be known as Hollywood's Golden Years.
Do you enjoy movies from the golden years of Hollywood? If so, which ones are your favourites and why? Who are your favourite actors from this era?

I liked some of the ones by Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers, but generally the romantic and war themes of that era are not genres that interest me. I like some the comedies and musicals, but I wouldn't choose to watch them.
It is rare that I will enjoy a movie older than 1977 or so. I just can't get into them. I always find it funny that if someone in a movie or TV show is watching something on a TV, it's an old back and white movie. Growing up, I used to scoff at this all the time thinking, 'no one actually watching those old things'. Obviously I've learned better, even though I now see the appeal, I don't personally watch them.
