Is the Silmarillion filmable?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a multi-Oscar winning masterpiece, but could the same team create something equally as amazing from the source material that is Tolkien's Silmarillion?

I love the Lord of the Rings and I would watch Similarion, if it were made into a movie. I'm not sure if the short stories could be translated well to film though?
I haven't read the book, but I would definitely go to see the film. Whether or not I would want another trilogy though, I'm notsure.
I love anything set in Middle Earth and I'm sure the writing trio of Peter Jackson, Phillippa Boyens and Fran Walsh could turn the disparate tales into something worth watching. There are so many good stories in the mythology of Middle Earth!
